FOCUS: ASTRIUM SERVICES

Astrium Services is the world's first commercial provider of military-specific communications services enabling governments and the military to buy secure communications as and when required. This flexible, pay-as-you-use solution provides access to state-of -the-art systems and services without taking on the capital investment burden (and risk) of procurement.
Telecommunications systems and services, including satellite systems, ground infrastructure and naval systems, are provided by Astrium Services to serve customers worldwide.
Geographic information is vital for managing ou enviroment and essential to improve asset management and business proceses. Through subsidiaries Infoterra and Spot Image, Astrium Services provides data services and geospatial knowledge to governments and companies worldwide to help them make more informed decisions and better protect and manage our environment.
Navigation services are touching more and more of our daily lives, from transport technology to precision surveying for greater efficiency. Astrium Services offers a range of value-added services including regional augmentation of Global Navigation Satellite Systems to
make of this emerging technology.

Telecom Services:

Skynet 5 Private Finance Initiative (PFI)

As prime contractor for the UK Ministry of Defence's Skynet 5 service, Astrium Services subsidiary Paradigm is responsible for the provision of all beyond-line-of-sight communications services to UK Armed Forces worldwide up to at least 2020. Paradigm can provide a range of supporting and enabling services; teleport services in the UK, and terrestrial fiber links as well as the procurement of user satcom terminals.
Paradigm's WelComE (Welfare Communications Everywhere) services enable military personnel to make telephone calls, access the internet and available wifi services from operational theatres worldwide, as part of the MoD-founded welfare package.
Paradigm is also providing Skynet 5 services to other governments and allies includ
ing NATO, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and the US.

MilSat Services GmbH joint venture-serving the German Armed Forces.

Milsat Services GmbH, a subsidiary of Astrium Services (74.9%) and the satellite network specialist ND SatCom GmbH (25.1%), is prime contractor for the German Armed Forces satellite communications programme SATCOMBw step 2, which comprises the delivery of two satellites operating in the milittary frequency bands, commercial satellite capacity, and an extensive ground segment, including communications and control stations. MilSat Services has been operating an anchor station and providing commercial capacity fo the German Armed Forces since October 2007.

ASTEL-S-satcom services for the French Ministry of Defence

Astrium Services is delivering military and commercial satellite services in Ku, C and X band to the French Ministry of Defence under the ASTEL-S contract.
This covers a complete rabge of on-demand services from engineering studies and regulatory support, to identification, booking and provision of satellite capacity. The flexible ASTEL-S business model accommodates fluctuations in military satellite capacity requiremen
ts; Astrium Services has strategic partnerships with major players in the commercial satellite market (including Intelsat, Eutelsat, Helas-Sat), for on-demand acces to over 80 satellites.


Passerel-Welfare services to French troops


The Passerel welfare communications services provided by Astrium Services delivers end-to-end communications services to France's troops deployed overseas. The contract includes providing voice and internet services for more than 9.000 service personel stationed abroad.

Telecomarsat-French naval communications

The Astrium Services-DCNS consortium is supplying the Telcomarsat system to provide the French Navy with cost-effective ship-borne communications capabilities via commercial satellites for operational and general purposes. During the four-year Telcomasat contract, 56 French naval ships will be equipped and anchor stations will be set up in French overseas departments, giving sailors a 24-hour link to French national territory from anywhere in the world.

SANGCOM-Telecom services for the Saudi Arabian National Guard


GPT, a Saudi-based secure telecommunications systems specialist company owned by Paradigm, is prime contractor for the SANGCOM program for provision of telecoms services to the Saudi Arabian National Guard under a UK-Saudi government-to-government agreement.


Secure Satcom Systems

Astrium Services "Secure Satcom Systems" division is a leading supplier of military and high-security satellite communications equipment, systems and networks.
Secure Satcom Systems was contracted by Paradigm to design and build the three Skynet 5 satellites, undertake a major upgrade to the ground infrastructure and to supply a comprehensive range of naval and land tactical terminals. Paradigm, part of Astrium Services, as owner and operator of the Skynet 5 system, is reponsible for delivering secure communications services as part of a service provision contract with the UK Minis
try of the Defence until 2020.
Secure Satcom Systems is co-prime contractor for the Yahsat satellite system, one of the most significant end-to-end government and commercial satcom programmes. Yahsat will provide services for government and commercial customers in the United Arab Emirates, throughout the Middle East and beyond.
The Secure Satcom Systems land tactical terminals provide military and paramilitary forces with a multi-role communications capability. The terminals have been designed to operate in the demanding environments found during UN and NATO operations, ranging from humanitarian missions to deployment on the battlefield. The terminals can be easily deployed by two operators and provide multiple voice and data circuits in the tactical environment.


EARTH OBSERVATION SERVICES

Through its subsidiaries Infoterra and Spot Image, Astrium Services offers an extensive portfolio of products and services derived from airborne and satellite remote sensing data, spanning the entire geo-information value chain- from data acquisition and processing to data hosting and sophisticated geo-information services, as well as GIS developmnet and consultancy.



NAVIGATION SERVICES



Navigation services have transformed the modem landscape with applications ranging from transport tracking to infrastructure monitoring and management, and precision surveying to automation of agricultural services. Astrium Services is a leading player with expertise across a range of applications and services, including:
-Value-added services as a key for navigation applications
-Secure navigation services and solutions
-Integrated solutions combining communications, navigation and Earth observation
-Regional augmentation to enable reliable high precision positioning.

GNSS AUGMENTATION SERVICES

Astrium Services provides a range of services to augment Global Navigation Satellite Service (GNSS) signals (GPS, Galileo, etc.) to enhance the performance of equipment using those services.
The fist of this services was ASCOS (satellite positioning services) provided by AXIO-Net, a joint venture formed by Astrium Services and ALLSAT in Germany. By means of standardized real-time correction data for GPS and GLONASS, a user position accuracy of down to 2cm is achieved.

AIR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Astrium Services develops solutions for communications and navigation in aviation working cooperation with other branches such as Airbus, Military Air Systems, Defence & Security and the Astrium Satellites and Astrium Space Transportation Business Units.

GALILEO

Astrium Services continues to play a key role in the Galileo program contributing expertise in the operation of critical public space infrastructure. As well as its role in Galileo operations Astrium Services is leading or contributing to a number of studies which pave the way for users to benefit from Galileo services. This includes the lead for the PACIFIC study on the Galileo Public Regulatory Service.
